1
Insurance Appraisals
Insurance appraisals are $150.00 each. For diamonds over one carat without a GIA report, a plotting diagram of internal and external characteristics is required by NAJA ethical rules. Plotting diagrams are $30 per diamond.

Appraisal rates may be adjusted for complex pieces requiring extensive examination, identification and research; however, the value of each item does not affect pricing.
2
Estate Appraisals
Estate Appraisals are billed hourly at $300/hr with a minimum duration of one hour and billed in 30 minute increments thereafter. As Estate Appraisals are less detailed than Insurance Appraisals, you can expect between 5-20 pieces examined per hour. The number of items evaluated per hour can increase or decrease depending on the value and complexity of each piece.

Hourly billing is for in-person exam time and includes all after-exam research and appraisal report preparation.
3
Gemstone Identification Consultation
Gemstone and precious metal identification and authentication is $50 per item. Please note this type of examination does not include an estimation of value or a full appraisal report.
4
Appraisal Updates
Updates to previously issued appraisals by Chris James Appraisals are available for $70 per report. It is recommended to have your pieces reappraised every 2-3 years.
